Interested in a Breast Lift procedure? This procedure is known to physicians as a mastopexy and to everyone who wants the surgery as a breast lift. It is a straightforward procedure that lifts breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to impact the shape of the breast. The result is a breast that resumes a younger contour at a slightly elevated position.
Breasts are nothing but soft tissue, no support structure to fend off gravity. Time, pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight fluctuation all can contribute to breasts sagging from their youthful starting point. A breast lift can turn back the clock on gravity. Sometimes the areolae are enlarged due to motherhood; a breast lift can reduce this enlargement as well.
This procedure essentially raises what is there and changes the contour of the lower breast. It will not make the upper portion of the breast more round and will not make the breast larger. It is a procedure for women who were comfortable with their figure once and merely wish to erase some of the effects of aging. A breast lift is effective for a woman whose nipples point downward; whose breasts are sagging or pendulous; or who have one breast smaller than the other.
This procedure requires anesthesia, so plan on having a driver with you if your breast lift is being done at an accredited surgery center on an outpatient basis. There are several options for incision and lift techniques. All incisions start by going around the areola; then, depending on the task at hand, there may be an additional incision along the breast crease, or vertically down from the areola, or horizontally along the breast crease.
The process may include removing excess breast skin in order to counter the loss of elasticity. The nipple and areola may be moved up to somewhere near their former height; and the underlying breast tissue is lifted and contoured to improve both appearance and firmness. Any sutures along the breast crease will be concealed.
Once the swelling fades, you’ll have a new figure to appreciate. You should know that repositioning the nipple may very likely reduce sensation in that area of your breast. Also, it is a procedure that you should postpone until you are finished having children.
